I see arch rivals at Bloomberg have finally decided to follow up on little old Betaville's alert from a couple of week's ago about the recent Ageas takeover rumours.
The financial media giant is claiming BE Group, which is led by ex Lazard financier Mark Pensaert, has rekindled its interest in buying Ageas. I would post the link but Bloomie hasn't made the story publicly available...
It would appear BE Group hasn't given up on Ageas after all, according to De Tijd.
Betaville's Flemish isn't too great but a translated version of the Belgian newspaper's report suggests a new bid by BE Group would "not to be excluded" (whatever that means).
The report also claims BE Group is still interested in buying a majority stake in the insurer and that it is not interested in acquiring parts of Ageas with a view to divesting them...
Betaville has been banging on about this second wave of China-backed interest in European businesses for the last month or so.
And today there has been further evidence to back this website's theories. A group of Chinese investors have snapped Irish stockbroker Goodbody for EURO 150 million. Below is a link to a Financial Times report on the deal:..
Oh look - I see Bloomborg last night published a piece that about Belgian insurer Ageas that is eerily similar to the one Betaville published a couple of weeks ago. I have pasted the links below:
Fosun is said to be the mystery company circling Ageas, the Belgian insurance business formerly known as Fortis.
