What have Unilever and Scor got in common?

The answer to the question I posit in the headline is: a strange attitude to the truth.

Take, for example, French insurance group Scor, which repeatedly denied in August 2018 to enquiring journalists (including yours truly) it held talks with Covea or Partners Re about offers about a deal for the business.

Today, it emerged that Scor had in fact been talks with Partners Re about a merger, which is why the boss of Covea launched a EURO 8.3 billion hostile offer in August 2018.
