8dates...

Investors chasing the next Bumble might want to take a look at 8dates.

Betaville understands 8dates, set up by Texan entrepreneur Michael Casey, has appointed British crowdfunder Seedrs to raise £350,000 as part of deal that will value the novel dating site at £4.2 million.

Now, to be clear dating websites don't always work out in the same manner as Bumble, which made its original backers a multi-billion dollar fortune after it floated in the US with a valuation of $8.2 billion earlier this year.

Indeed, EasyDates floated a decade ago on Aim to great fanfare but then changed its name to Cupid. It later came a cropper when it emerged the site was being used by Ukrainian scammers.

8dates, though, claims to be different than other dating sites because it will make money from affiliates - i.e. restaurants and other venues - that it sends the dating couples to for, er, their dates.

So, unlike most sites, such as Tinder, 8dates aims to make its money 8dates by keeping daters together rather than encouraging a series of hook ups.

Perhaps Betaville, an eternal singleton, should join up the app...?
