UNCOOKED ALERT: Alimentation Couche-Tard said to ... - Part 6

Loyal readers won't be too surprised to see reports about Auchan and its owners, the Mulliez family, once again working on a fresh bid for Carrefour, the France-listed supermarket giant.

Back in early December little old Betaville reported on Betaville Intelligence that Carrefour remains "in play", with Auchan rumoured to be one of the parties interested in the business. Below is the link:

That report was subsequently met with a series of denials, which in typical fashion were eaten up and trotted out by the wire services with no questions asked.

Now Bloomberg and others are reporting in a "scoop" that Auchan is working on a fresh bid for Carrefour, possibly by teaming up with private equity firms. Below is a link to that report:

What can one learn from this episode?

Well, for a start that denials, especially denials from company mouthpieces in countries such as France, mean diddly squat!..
